All’università di Leida nasce un progetto per alleviare il problema di trovare casa per gli studenti.
Il progetto 3days offre un luogo in cui stare agli studenti che si recano a Leida e L’Aia per cercare casa.
Trovare casa a Leiden è spesso un’impresa ardua. È possibile cercare online, certo, ma come si può essere certi che la stanza trovata su Facebook sia reale e non sia una truffa? Il modo migliore per saperlo è recarsi fisicamente in città per qualche giorno, controllare con i propri occhi le case selezionate e parlare con gli studenti dell’università di Leida. Tuttavia, non tutti hanno la possibilità di permettersi un costoso hotel o un Airbnb solo per qualche giorno!
Proprio da qui nasce 3days.
3days è una mappa che connette studenti internazionali, che stanno per trasferirsi a Leida, con studenti che già vivono in città e sono disposti a mettere a disposizione il proprio divano per, generalmente, 3 giorni. In questo modo gli studenti internazionali possono stare a Leida, o L’Aia, solo per alcuni giorni a casa di un altro studente mentre cercano casa.
Ad aver avuto l’idea è una nostra studentessa, Isabella Donkersloot. Il suo progetto nasce dall’osservazione della drammatica situazione immobiliare olandese con un l’occhio di una studentessa internazionale e quello di un’olandese. Isabella, infatti, è italo-olandese ma non aveva mai vissuto nei Paesi Bassi prima. Appena arrivata, ha potuto osservare da vicino gli ostacoli che i suoi compagni di università internazionali hanno dovuto affrontare nel cercare una stanza. Alcuni studenti, come Alberto, hanno deciso di prenotare un Airbnb prima dell’inizio del semestre per alcune notti per poter girare Leida in cerca di una casa. Altri, non disponendo della possibilità di spendere fino a 150€ a notte, si sono visti tristemente obbligati a rinunciare all’esperienza Erasmus, come Valentina, una compagna universitaria di Isabella.
Altri studenti, come Marina, hanno avuto abbastanza fortuna da incontrare casualmente persone che avevano già trovato una casa a Leida. Marina, per esempio, ha conosciuto Lucy e ha dormito da lei per qualche giorno. Questo le ha dato il tempo e la possibilità di cercare e trovare casa.
Isabella, dopo essere venuta a conoscenza di tutte queste problematiche, si è domandata: esiste un modo per rendere tutti gli studenti fortunati quanto Marina?
È così che ha pensato di creare una piattaforma dove gli studenti internazionali possono avere la possibilità di cercare casa e al contempo conoscere la città e altri studenti.
Sulla pagina web di 3days, gli studenti che offrono una stanza, o ne stanno cercando una, possono mettersi in contatto tra loro, per dare un piccolo contributo personale per cercare di risolvere la difficoltà di trovare casa.

A project born at Leiden University to ease the room-hunting problem for students in the city.
The webpage 3days offers a place to stay for a few days to incoming students in a student’s house while room-hunting in Leiden or Den Haag.
Looking for a room in Leiden can be a daunting task. You can look for a place online, of course, but how can you be sure the room you found exists and you have not been scammed?
The best way to know it is to spend a few days in the city, checking the offers with your own eyes and talking to students from Leiden University. The only other problem is that not everyone has money for a stay in an expensive hotel or Airbnb!
That is the reason 3days was born!
3days is a map that connects international students who are planning to live in Leiden and students who already live in the city and are willing to provide their couch for, generally, 3 days. In this way international students can stay in Leiden, or Den Haag, for a few days at a student’s place while room-hunting.
The webpage was created by one of our students, Isabella Donkersloot. She came up with the idea after observing the housing situation with both an international and a Dutch eye: Isabella is half Dutch and half Italian, but she had never lived in the Netherlands before. When she first arrived, she saw how her fellow international friends were experiencing the housing problem. Some students decided to book an Airbnb for a few nights to go around Leiden to find a house prior to the beginning of the semester, like for example Alberto did. Others, who did not have the possibility to spend up to 150€ a night, gave up on their Erasmus experience and left with a bitter feeling of frustration, like Valentina did, one of Isabella university friends.
Other students, like Marina, were lucky enough to casually get to know people who had already found a house in Leiden. Marina stayed at Lucy’s for a few days, and that gave her the time and the chance to look for a room of her own.
Isabella observed all these situations and wondered: could there be a way to ensure all students will be as lucky as Marina was? That is when she started thinking about creating a platform where international students can have the chance to look for a house while getting to know the city and other students.
On the 3Days webpage, students that offer a room, or are looking for one, can reach out and get it touch with each other, in order to give their small, personal contribution to solve the housing crisis.
